Learn more about SSDP
To begin with, read our About page for an overview of our organisation and to understand our mission, vision and values. It is very important that you uphold these.
Please also read the following resources. The student organising manual is mainly for chapters that are based in a university, please ignore the parts that are not relevant to you. The activist resources have many wonderful resources; you don't need to read them all straight away, but take a look to see what might be helpful. The blog is really good for finding out how other chapters work and their activities, it's good to learn from others! (If you ever want to write something for the blog, let us know.)

Build a plan
To create your plan, we suggest you take a few things into consideration:
- What would you like to achieve with SSDP?
- What is your capacity (e.g. time available, resources available, etc.)?
- Where is your effort best spent (e.g. in your university, town, city, which communities can you work with)?
Once you answer these questions, consider what your next steps might be. For example, your first step might be investigating local policy and services, or perhaps getting in touch with nearby organisations with similar missions. Once you identify your next steps, add a realistic timeline. This can be short or long, but it is helpful to add measurable milestones (e.g. "one month from now I will have identified and reached out to local organisations").
Remember to send us your plan once it's ready!

Join the Facebook groups & create an online presence
Join our Facebook groups, SSDP Family, SSDP International and SSDP Africa Network. There are also many groups on WhatsApp which we can add you to if you wish. Like and follow Students for Sensible Drug Policy on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for regular updates. Once you're getting established, we recommend you create social media accounts for your work. Using Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Twitter to advertise your activities is a fantastic way to get recognition among young people and the network, and to attract more supporters.
